Chinese New Year celebrations at Little Mandarins
Posted by Jaime Koh on February 3rd, 2010
Dear parents,
It’s Spring Festival or Chinese New Year (CNY) on 14th Feb 2010. To celebrate this very special occasion, Little Mandarins has been transformed during this period. Come check out our “Dui Lian” (couplets) handwritten by our very own teachers! It’s red and gold everywhere…

During this period, we will be introducing lots of Chinese New Year customs and food to the children. They will “write” special characters as part of our “arts & crafts” calligraphy sessions, and of course, what is Chinese New Year without the traditional red packets “Hong Bao”! We have planned so many special activities to celebrate this festive season with your children. Please make an effort to come to class early to have fun …
Throughout the weeks, we will encourage the children to try all the traditional goodies associated with the season. Some of these include melon seeds, “nian gao”, dumplings, gold coins, chocolates, kueh bulu (mini egg sponge cake), traditional sweets. As a precaution, all teachers will ask the children if they are allergic to eggs, colouring, etc. before consumption.
If your child has any allergy or if you prefer not to try the goodies, please let us know in advance so that we can inform our teachers.
We hope we can bring some festive cheer to you and your family during this Chinese New Year. Xin Nian Kuai Le, Gong Xi Gong Xi!
Thanks and best regards
